Maple Road

History of Maple Road Maple Road was originally designed in 1905 as a major urban parkway in the Park and Boulevard System Plan for Indianapolis by landscape architect George Kessler. Though often overlooked, not only does the corridor contain historic architecture,it is a historic landscape itself. Modern roadway demands being what they are, Maple Road can not be completely restored as a historic landscape. However, it can be rejuvenated as a parkway connection between White River and Fall Creek by emphasizing the following aspects: Promoting pedestrian traffic in addition to facilitating vehicular traffic Promoting Maple Road Parkway as the center of civic activity for the neighborhoods by developing an identity that connects all communities Balancing neighborhood environment, commercial activity and public spaces Increasing safety for drivers and pedestrians Maple Road Parkway Project Brochure < Prev   Next >
